History

The Seattle Festival of Improvisational Theater (SFIT) was founded in 2002 by Matt Grabowski and Andrew McMasters. In just seven years, SFIT has grown to become America's best showcase festival of unscripted, interactive theater. With a focus on innovative, professional performers and groups, SFIT has earned a national reputation as a fun and exciting stop on the national improv festival circuit.

The first festival took place in February of 2003 at the Northwest Actors' Studio in Seattle's Capitol Hill Neighborhood. SFIT 2003 played host to 500 students, performers, and audience members.

Since those humble beginnings, SFIT has grown to two venues: the Historic University Theater in the University District, and the Market Theater at the Pike Place Market. The fest continues to grow in size, audience members and students, with performers and teachers coming from all over Washington State, British Columbia, Oregon, California, Chicago, New York and the U.K.

SFIT continues to seek out the best performers and instructors in the improvisational theater world, and entice them to Seattle to delight and inform audiences in the greater-Seattle area and the Pacific Northwest.
